TPC set aside incentives to motivate its workers

TANZANIA Posts Corporation (TPC) has designed an incentives scheme focusing at motivating its workers as part of the corporation efforts to increase efficiency in the implementation of a five year strategic business plan.

This will require optional utilization of human resources to enable the corporation pursue a rigorous objective settling and performance monitoring system for the entire workforce. 

According to press statement issued recent in Dar es Salaam, TPC said the incentive scheme was in line with the current competition in the communication markets that requires strategic thinking, flexibility, innovation and increased use of technology based services  in the globalised world.

Under the plan, performance review for each staff is done on annual basis with the view to indentify and reward best workers at national, regional and departmental levels.

This year’s best workers for the corporation are Leonard Yegela and Genoveva Assenga who have been awarded with different prizes including cash during the International Workers Day    celebrations held at the national level in Mbeya City yesterday, President Jakaya Kikwete graced the occasion.

The Corporation was also last December announced and awarded as the best employer of the year in the category of disability inclusiveness practices.

The award sponsored by the Associations of Tanzania Employers (ATE) and officially named as Employer of the Year Award is in recognition that the corporation has been offering equal opportunities to all employees with regard to only competence of the person to deliver accordingly.

The award presentation event was also graced by President Jakaya Kikwete, whereby Tanzania Posts Corporation got two recognitions, for excellent participation and for best disability inclusiveness practice during employment.

TPC  Assistant Manager for Human Resources Emmanuel Lugomela said apart from special group being employed, gender balance and professional mix are also considered – leading to the corporation offering better employment opportunities in the country.

The corporation is currently employing 1115 workers national wide in various positions and also more than 3,000 others are indirectly employed as sales agents. 

Women make a good portion of the employees, as of the total permanent employed staffs, 634 are women and 521 are men.  “Women dominance is because they have qualifications for the jobs they occupy” said Lugomela “We remain firmly committed to the belief that the key to our future success lies in our staff and in this context we will continue to invest in human resource towards the business excellence model “said Lugomela.

 

The TPC is optimistic that it will achieve its productive human resources through rigorous recruitment, induction and training in order to enable workers to cope up with the technological demand.

With regard to labour relations, Lugomela said all employers participate in decision making at difference level like workers council at regional levels and at master workers’ council at the national levels there are representatives

Besides, workers are encouraged to join in trade unions of their choice, which are three; Telecommunications Workers Union  of Tanzania (TEWUTA), Communications and Transport Workers Union for Tanzania Mainland (COTWU/T) and for Zanzibar it is COTWU(ZNZ)
